Young Entrepreneur Takes a Shine to Starting a Business

Kid owned and operated, Faithful Shine is a window washing business run by Rysten.

Eleven-year-old Ryster has a window washing business. The name of his business is Faithful Shine Window Washing. I’m writing about Rysten so people can learn about him and maybe think about getting their windows washed by him.

Rysten started his business because he told his dad he wanted to make a little money and have a job. Rysten’s dad taught him how to wash windows at their house, and he loved it. I asked Rysten about the materials he needs for his business. He said he uses squeegees, lots of water, towels, soap and other supplies.

His dad always helps him wash the windows, and sometimes his brothers join him. He can wash the outside of the windows, but he can also wash the inside. He can also clean screens. He has a special machine to wash screens, which I didn’t even know existed! It is pretty neat to watch.

Rysten said talking to people is the hardest part of his job because he isn’t a big talker. What he likes most is meeting new people. He said his customers are nice, and he enjoys serving them. Rysten is a hard worker and he is kind. Rysten’s faith is an important part of his business. Colossians 3:23 inspires him to keep going when the job gets hard. He remembers that he is not just working for the person who hired him. He is really working for God.

I think it is nice to see kids with their own jobs who want to work. It seems like most kids just want to play video games!

If someone my age wants to start a business, I have some ideas for them after my interview with Rysten. I would say you have to work hard. You have to fi nd something people need or want. Try out a few things that you think you might like. Then maybe try practicing on your friends and family members.

Faithful Shine Window Washing offers free estimates and serves Hendricks County and surrounding areas. If you have dirty windows, Rysten has some advice: “If your windows are dirty, you should probably get them cleaned by us.”
