Hendricks County’s Best Close High School Careers on a Winning Note

The 60th annual Murat Shriners North/South All-Star Football Game was held Friday, July 10, at Decatur Central High School and featured strong representation from Hendricks County schools.

The Team

Seven players on the South roster were from Hendricks County. Cascade assistant coach Troy Edwards was also selected to help coach the South team.

Former Cascade quarterback Brady Trebley, an incoming Taylor University quarterback, threw two touchdown passes in the South’s 23-9 victory.

Avon wide receiver Shawn Curry, an Illinois College commit, also caught a touchdown pass.

Fresh off winning the Class 6A state championship, Brownsburg sent two players to the game. Running back AJ Jobe (DePauw commit) started on offense, while South co-captain Alex Fisher (Wabash commit) started at linebacker. Both players made key contributions to the victory.

Also seeing playing time were recent Cascade graduate and DePauw commit Marcus Hobson at wide receiver, Danville offensive lineman Paxton Trump, and Plainfield defensive tackle Brody Clampitt. Clampitt will play at Hanover College this fall.

The Game

North scored first and held a 3-0 lead with three minutes remaining in the first half. South responded less than a minute later with its first touchdown, taking a 6-3 lead. North answered with a field goal with 25 seconds remaining before halftime to tie the game at 6-6.

Twin Lakes’ Ethan Need kicked his third field goal of the night in the third quarter, setting a new All-Star Game record and giving North a 9-6 lead.

The fourth quarter belonged to the South. Trebley threw a touchdown pass in the opening minute of the period to give South a 13-9 advantage. The South extended its lead to 20-9 when quarterback Devin Craig connected on a touchdown pass with just over five minutes remaining. The scoring was capped by a South field goal, sealing the 23-9 victory.
