‍Dan Carter, Brownsburg resident and Iditarod Race Marshal

The Iditarod Trail Committee (ITC) has announced the appointment of Dan Carter as Race Marshal for the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race®.

Carter is a 2007 Iditarod veteran with a decade of experience as a professional musher. His background in sled dog sports includes guiding expeditions andcompeting in mid-distance, long-distance, and stageformat races across North America. In addition, he brings 14 years of experience directing and managing sled dog sportingevents. He and his wife, Marty, are residents of Brownsburg.

Carter has spent the past four years serving as an Iditarod race judge — an experience he describes as “the ultimate backstage pass to the Iditarod” and one that he believes will be invaluable in his new leadership role.

“I’ve always had a passion for this race,” said Carter. “Running the Iditarod in 2007 was a culmination of everything I had worked toward as a musher, and staying connected to this community has always been important to me. I’m honored to step into the role of Race Marshal and support the race in a new way.”
