All 50 residents of Lakeview Apartments in Danville were displaced on Friday.

On Friday, March 6, a fire at Lakeview Apartments in Danville took several local fire departments to put out the blaze. The property management company estimated it will take nine months to repair the damage to the building.

“They walked out the door and grabbed nothing,” said Center Township Trustee Bill Wright.

Since the fire, Wright has been meeting with Red Cross representatives and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to find ways to help those residents. As of Tuesday of this week, about half of the residents are staying with relatives or in temporary housing through the Red Cross.

At this time, Trustee Wright said the best way to help would be to donate to the Red Cross as redcross.org He warned those wanting to help to be wary of scams, online or by telephone.

“We have the heart of a small town,” Wright said. “No one is going to be out on the streets.”
