Preserving The Mayberry Cafe

By: Brad and Christine Born

Yep, rumor mill rang true this time. After 36 years, the Mayberry Café is under new ownership.

In reflection, this is more than passing on the legacy of Mayberry. It’s really what Americana was built on; a culture of simple hard work, doing what you love, for people you love, in a town you love - this is what’s being passed on to capable, enthusiastic folks who are going to add their own magic.

Some of you might recall when we first started, we were “Mayberry Café & Bakery” but the town wasn’t quite large enough to support a bakery, so we focused on lunch and dinner. Now it seems things have come full circle with the upcoming addition of Kami Hamilton’s baking talents.

These are wonderful local families, with big hearts, invested in the community and full of the Mayberry spirit. We are excited to see where they go and tickled that they want to continue it. As “Mom and Pop” stores have become a rarity, cherish what Danville still has, and they are excited to preserve. It was never lost on us that you had a choice every day to visit a chain or visit a neighbor with your patronage. That truly is the difference in Danville. We have been honored to be a part of a town; a community where people still reach out and look out for one another, as you have done for us, our families, our employees.

Stop in, get to know them better, celebrate them. Shower them with the same grace and support you have shown us. You have watched us grow, scramble, adjust to the times and plow on through. Any of you that have worked in a restaurant understand that labor intensity is the heart of this business and it is the relationships made, the appreciation of customers that make it all worthwhile.

We are filled with enormous gratitude and humility for your years of faith and support. Thank you for encouraging us when we started, as we grew, as we stumbled, good or bad, you followed along with us and became such a part of our lives. We still remember our 1 st batch of employees and our last – and this is where the biggest thanks need to be offered. Hats off to our employees that have worked side by side with us and become our 2nd family and yours too we hope!

Yes, we will stay on for a bit to help with the transition and we are committed to helping make their dreams successful. So, follow along! This is your town, your café and show them your hometown pride with the same support and love you offered us.

Mayberry is in good hands and so is Danville.
