It was a day for the arts in Danville.
Last Saturday, the annual “Artists Paint the Town” brought artists to the county seat to find inspiration. The day also brought music lovers to the first annual Porchfest, hosted by the Danville Rotary Club.
The porches of homes on shady tree lined streets became the stage and the yards filled with people of all ages to enjoy a variety of music.
“I’m happy to report that Porchfest was a resounding success,” wrote Chris Parker to his fellow Rotarians. “On Saturday afternoon the weather was beautiful and Washington Street was filled with golf carts, music and good vibes. Friends, neighbors and music lovers clustered around porches and patios on lawn chairs and blankets enjoying the performances and fellowship. As the day finished up with the final acts, one gentleman turned to me and said ‘This is the kind of day that makes a whole summer.’”
Or, as Hendricks County born and raised singer-songwriter and Porchfest contributing artist Levi Riggs might say, “When it comes to small town entertainment, Danville’s still a place for that.”
